Friends of Tunbridge Wells Cemetery at Hawkenbury
Restoration of the Caffyn Family Immortelle
In 2018, the badly damaged immortelle, which had been hidden and broken by undergrowth, was rediscovered by the Friends of Tunbridge Wells cemetery, who recognising its rarity, began researching the grave owners, looking for restorers and raising funds for the restoration enthusiastically assisted by the TWBC Parks Department who helped the Friends rescue the smashed dome containing broken porcelain roses, doves and a ribbon card.

Here is Kasia from the Parks Department removing the Immortelle ready for transportation to London for restoration.
The restoration was carried out by Mr Guillaume Pons, Ceramic & Glass Conservation and Restoration. Some of the process can be viewed below and we are delighted that Mr Pons recorded the process and shared the images with us.
Metal work by Marta Herraez and the glass dome was made by Jeff at Blue Crystal Glass.

We were delighted to be joined by Sue Schofield and her sister, descendants of the Caffyn family who unveiled the Immortelle and we all admired its new resting place.
